Arrived in Chang Mai early this morning (Monday) after a long 14 hour journey by train. Overnight sleeper (travelled 400 miles in 14 hours). Still the sleeper train was quite comfortable and air conditioned.
So here in Chang Mai there are loads of forests everywhere. And plenty of deciduous trees. It doesn't go below 15C - so what happens to the leaves - when do they fall of? Got no answers here so thought one of you might no.
Money info. Just for info - the overnight train cost about 13quid. Food is costing us about 1.50 to 3.00 for a decent meal. I've just paid 3 quid for a starter, broccoli with chicken, main course pad thai with shrimps and wine cooler - and am now stuffed. Note to Pete - the food is excellent. (Note to Shell the seafood involves a little to much on site preparation for you I think!!)
Glad to be out of Bangkok. Since Saturday have been to the Grand Palce, the reclining buddha wat - wat pho and the Wat of the Jade buddha. Too much gold , glitter and tourists but still worth seeing. We also went for a long boat ride around Bangkok canals which was an experience. And we went down the road in Bangkok famous for its backpack cafes and guest houses - a room on this street would set you back about 2 quid! I've forgotten to bring my guide book with me hence the lack of accurate names!
What do you think is the career path of a lady boy. Be born, grow into a dainty effeminate boy, make the career choice, bit of cosmetic surgery...... what do you do when you are about 25 - I haven't seen the same number of lady men around??
Tomorrow we are off to an elephant training centre and sanctuary in the morning and then to a hill tribe craft village. The days are paked at the moment - I am sitting here now at 9:50 - 1st free time since I last wrote on Saturday.
Do you know where the phrase white elephants comes from. In Thailand the white elephants are considered to be very sacred and pwoerful. The Number of white elephants in existence indicates the power of the King of Thailand. And any white elephants belong to him. So if you happen to own one you get the priviledge of keeping it, feeding it but are not allowed to work or use it - because its not yours. Hence, the phrase..
See you learn something every day with me. Jammy England too - lets hope they can finish the job on Wednesday.
One of the villages we are staying in has no electricity at all - we get given candles on check in so definitely no internet.
see you all later
oh its bloody hot and sunny here , although it refreshingly rained for 10 minutes this afternoon.

Love the blog. Not only do I get to read all about your travels but I get to read everyone else's comments too. Am intrigued by the mince pies... Did you have a christmas party because you would be away then???
I know what you mean about being sad about the departure. 4 months is a long time to be away and there are always some things yo miss. I am really jealous though. I have just come in from work and still feeling stressy. What I wouldn't give to see the elephants and walk in the forests. Helen x
Sounds like you are having a great time. Just curious about you interest in and lack of lady men available above the age of 25. This must be due to your age!
Just to keep you updated re the tuesday night football. Score was 23 - 23 last night with us equalising in the last minute, However one slight draw back, another injury sustained. The most important player in the team fractured his arm, his wrist and his hand whilst making a fantastic save. I am however in a little pain today and now plastered up to the elbow. But without my save we would have lost by a goal so the pain was worth the effort.
Speak soon
